Foldly

The fold counter for foldable phones

What the app does

Foldly counts how many times you close and open your foldable phone, so you can see your habits and keep them under control: a daily limit, alerts, widgets, history and records.

Counting all day

When Foldly is on screen (inner or outer display), it reads the hinge itself. When it isn't on screen, iOS doesn't tell it anything: a Shortcuts automation takes over.

  1. Open the Shortcuts app, Automation tab, then +.
  2. Choose the trigger When iPhone is Opened or Closed and keep Closed only.
  3. Select Run Immediately and turn notifications off.
  4. Add the action Count a fold (Foldly).
  5. Check that the automation is turned on.

Each fold is counted only once, even when the app is on screen too. Widgets catch up within a few minutes.

FAQ

Something shows up each time I open my phone? In Shortcuts, open the automation, tap the action and turn off “Show When Run”; keep “Run Immediately” and turn off “Notify When Run”.

Why only “Closed”? With “Opened or Closed”, every opening would count as a fold. Make two automations: Closed → Count a fold, Opened → Count an opening (for the time open).

Widgets don't update right away? iOS decides when widgets refresh; opening Foldly updates them.

Start from zero? In the app: Settings → Reset all folds.

My purchase on another iPhone? Download Foldly with the same Apple Account, no need to pay again.
